7/09/08 Ironman UK Triathlon

Martin Goodlad qualifies for Hawaii!

Just one week on from his  4th place in  age group at the World Long Course Triathlon Championships at Almere in Holland Martin was back in action at the Ironman UK Triathlon at Sherborne in Dorset. He finished 23rd overall from 1,300 starters, and 5th in age group in a time of 09:53:32. This result means that Martin has qualified for the prestigious Hawaii Ironman Championship on 11th October. no mean feat in only his second season in Ironman. Martins split times for the events were, Swim (2.4 miles): 55:14, Bike (112 miles) 5:37:04, Run (26.2 miles) 3:16:34.

6/09/08 Bealach Mor Sportive

Peter Dennis and Ian Brown both took part in the classic Scottish Bealach Mor Cycle Sportive over a 90 mile route in the Western highlands incoroprating the 2,000 foot climb of Bealach Na Ba (The Pass of The Cattle), the highest road climb in Britain. from over 400 starters Peter finished 14th in a time of 4:56:38 and he recorded a time of 35:58 for the climb. Ian finished 17th in 4:57:45 with a time of 40:51 for the climb. Well done guys!

31/08/08 Scottish MTB Series (SXC)

Jack Richards backed up his good result in the British series last weekend with a fine 5th place in mens elite/expert in typical summer 2008 very wet and muddy conditions at Drumlanrig castle in South West Scotland.

31/08/08 ITU World Long Course Triathlon Championships

Martin Goodlad took 4th in the 35 - 39 age group in the ITU World Long Course Triathlon Championships at Almere in Holland.

24/08/08 British MTB Series

Jack Richards took his best result to date in the British series with a fast finishing 4th place in the mens Expert category.

17 - 22/08/08 Trans Wales MTB Race

Katrina Brown has been in action again, this time in the 6 day Trans Wales MTB race. She was riding solo for the 1st time in a multi stage event and finished in an excellent 2nd place in the womans solo category despite dreadful British summer weather conditions and a sore knee following a fall early in the event.  Read more about it here

13/07/08 Ironman Austria

Liz Chellingsworth and Ian Brown took part in Ironman Austria at Klagenfurt on Sunday, 13th July. The days prior to the race had been very warm with temperatures touching 300 but fortunately race day was cooler with a mixture of sunshine and showers, making some of the descents on the bike leg interesting!
Ian completed the the 2.4 mile open water in 1:00:42, the 112 mile bike leg in 5:13:53, then ran a marathon in 4:26:18 to record an Ironman PB finishing time of 10:49:11.  In her 1st Ironman Liz approached the race cautiously completing the swim in 1:16:19, the bike in 5:58:19 and the marathon in 5:05:30 for a finishing time of 12:37:39.

05/07/08 La Marmotte

On Saturday 5th July Bill Mackie tackled the classic French Cyclo Sportif, La Marmotte, billed as “the most difficult one day event for amateur cyclists in Europe”, its 174 kms include the climbs of Col du Glandon, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier before tackling the final 22 hairpins to the ski station at Alpe d’Huez. A total of 5,000m of climbing. Bill completed the event in a gold standard time of 8:29:59. To top off a fine weekend in the Alps Bill also took part in the time trial up the climb to Alpe d’Huez on Sunday the 6th, finishing in 59:23.

22/06/08 Scottish 50 Mile TT Championships

In cool, windy conditions Jonathan Copp finished in a strong 2nd place in 1:52:02, 1:17 behind Sandy Wallace Cycles team mate Mark Atkinson in the Scottish Cycling 50 time Trial Championship. The Sandy Wallace Cycles trio of Mark, Jonathan and Ian Black also won the team chanmpionship.

22/06/08 Scottish MTB Championships

The Scottish Cross Country Mountain Bike championships took place at Glennefer Braes near Paisley. Katrina Brown finished 3rd in the womans Elite/Expert category, Jack Richards was 10th in Mens Elite/Expert and Peter Dennis was 6th in Masters Men.

15/06/08 UK Ironman 70.3

Putting aside his disappointment after picking up a chest infection just prior to the Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon in May Martin Goodlad made a strong comeback at UK Ironman 70.3 (1/2 Ironman) at wimbleball lake in Dorset. Martin was 35th overall and 1st in his age category after the 1.2 mile swim, coming out of the water in 27:54. He then completed the hilly 56 mile bike leg in 3:04:17 and the 1/2 Marathon run in 1:35:46 to finish 39th overall and 7th in his age category in a field of 799 finishers.  The event was won by Scotlands Fraser Cartmell in 4:17:39.

13/04/08 London Marathon

The 2008 London Marathon took place on Sunday 13th April in cool, showery conditions.  Ideal marathon running conditions despite the showers. Ken Bryson was the fastest Total Endurance runner with a time of 3:18:46.  An improvement of 22 minutes on his last marathon performance in 1986.  Ashley Pearson, running her 1st marathon apart from at the end of Ironman Triathlons finished in 3:26:51. Renea Bryson completed the course in 6:45:41, a 32 minute improvement on her 2007 performance.
