2009 News 19/07/09 Furneaux Trophy 100 Mile TT Jonathan Copp (Sandy Wallace Cycles) won the Furneaux Trophy 100 mile TT on Royal Deeside today in a course record and personal best time of 3:50:14. Jonathan’s time was just 23 seconds away from the Scottish event record. The event was run in calm, cool conditions, ideal for long distance time trialling, but with some heavy rain for the later finishers. 19/07/09 Peterhead Sprint Triathlon Now fully recovered from his adventures at Ironman Germany (see separate story) and a subsequent cold, Martin Goodlad (Fleet Feet Triathletes) won the Peterhead Sprint Triathlon in a time of 1:07:36. In addition to winning overall he was also fastest in each of the 3 disciplines. 19/07/09 British Mountain Bike Championships Jack Richards (Deeside Thistle CC) took an excellent 9th place in the Cross Country Expert category at the British Mountain bike championships held at Innerleithen in Scotland. 11/07/09 Scottish 50 mile Time Trial Championship Jonathan Copp (Sandy Wallace Cycles) finished 3rd in the Scottish 50 Mile TT Championships at Invergordon on Saturday, in a time of 1:52:19. A perfectly paced ride saw Jonathan move up from 7th at half distance to 3rd at the finish and the faster starters began to fade towards the finish. the event was won by Michael Nicolson in 1:51:16 with Jonathans Sandy Wallace team mate Mark Atkinson 2nd in 1:52:02. 04/07/09 Ironman Germany Despite slowing dramatically over the closing kilometres suffering from heat exhaustion in 300C+ temperatures and having to be stretchered away from the finish Martin Goodlad (Fleet Feet Triathletes) finished 268th in a field of 2593 finishers in Ironman Germany in a time of 9:54:56. Martins splits were swim: 54:50, bike: 5:04:21, run: 3:49:29. The temperatures will no doubt have been good practice for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October! 21/06/09 Scottish 25 mile Time Trial Championship Jonathan Copp (Sandy Wallace Cycles) finished 2nd in the Scottish 25 mile TT Championship in a personal best time of 51:56 on the Fordoun - Stracathro course south of Aberdeen. The event, which was held in calm, sunny conditions was won by Arthur Doyle in 51:33. Super Veteran Dick Stewart won the veterans competition beating his veterans standard by 22:48!. Liz Chellingsworth and Ian Brown both posted personal bests with 1:04:35 and 58:02 respectively. Liz has improved her 25 mile best time by over 3 minutes in the last week. 14/06/09 British Long Course Triathlon Championships Martin Goodlad (Fleet Feet Triathletes) finished an excellent 32nd from a field of 530 in the British Long Course Triathlon Championships held over a hilly course in North Wales. Martins finishing time was 4:29:25 for a 1,900m swim, 90 km bike and 21 km (1/2 marathon) run. Jonathans time of 1:53:48 gave him the victory by just under 3 minutes with Steve Nutley (Fife Cycling 2000) in second place. 11/06/09 Fleet Feet Summer Triathlon Series After a heavy week of racing including the Stirling sprint Triathlon and a 20 mile hilly time trial Lewis Murchie took the 1st overall win of his triathlon career in event one of the Fleet Feet Triathletes Summer Series. Lewis’s time was 48:54 to give him the victory by 36 seconds over senior Stephen Terwey with veteran Jake Vellacot a further 3 seconds back. I have no doubt that this wil be the 1st of many victories for Lewis 07/06/09 Stirling Sprint Triathlon Lewis Murchie faced up to a much higher standard of competition than he has faced in the recent local sprint events at the Stirling triathlon.He was 5th out of the water in 10:05, just over 30 seconds down on the leader, then completed the bike leg in 36:45 and the run in 19:50 for a total time of 1:08:15 and 16th position overall. He was 1st junior, 11 minutes clear of 2nd place. The event was won by Scottish international Fraser Cartmell in 58:32. 31/05/09 Inverurie Sprint Triathlon Martin Goodlad didn’t quite manage to repeat his win of 2 weeks earlier at Turriff but 3rd place is a solid result as he continues to use the shorter events as high quality training as he builds towards his 1st big goal of the season, Ironman Germany in July. Martins time was 1:22:51, 59 seconds down on winner Peter Fenwick. Lewis Murchie repeated his Turriff result finishing 5th overall in 1:26:22, Lewis was 1st junior and posting the fastest swim time, despite winning a Realy Team open gold medal for swimming in Inverness at 7:30 the previous evening. 30/05/09 Ten Under The Ben Katrina Brown finished 23rd overall and second female from 175 finishers in the the grueling 10 hour mountain bike race held in hot and sunny conditions in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britains highest mountain. Katrina completed 7 laps of the course in 9:27:19. The event was won by Michael Bossard who completed 10 laps in 10:29:10. 30/05/09 Skye Sportive Ian Brown was 1st across the finish line in the Skye Mor Sportive run in sunny but windy conditions on the Isle of Skye. Ian completed the 95 mile course in 5:07:21, just over 3 minutes clear of the 2nd finisher. Ian Chapple also completed the event, finishing in 5:51:32 in 19th position. Rob Evans completed the 45 mile Skye Beag route in 12th position in 3:09:15. 17/05/09 Turriff Sprint Triathlon A good day for Total Endurance in Turriff. Martin Goodlad (Fleet Feet) won the event with an overall time of 1:07:51, 1:30 clear of the field. Lewis Murchie (Fleet Feet) was fastest junior in 5th place overall and also posted the fastest swim time by exactly 1 minute from 2nd junior, John Rutledge. Well done guys, lets have more of the same at Inverurie in 2 weeks. 26/04/09 London Marathon Ken Bryson once again took part in the London Marathon, completing the course in 3:14:03 on a warm day.
