The Metabolic Block bridges the gap between template plans and 1-2-1 coaching. We measure your internal engine, identify exactly what is holding you back (e.g., VLamax too high, Aerobic floor too low), and build a focused 12-week training block to fix it.

Our Metabolic Project combines advanced metabolic profiling with targeted planning so you understand exactly:

  • How your body produces and uses energy across long durations

  • Where your aerobic system limits sustainable bike and run pace

  • Whether lactate production and clearance are restricting durability

  • Which training adaptations actually raise your sustainable race intensity

The result is no guesswork, no generic zones — just a physiology-driven blueprint to improve durability, pacing, and race-day execution.

The Process

1. The Physiology Testing (Bike & Run) We don't guess your zones. We measure them. Your block begins with a comprehensive metabolic analysis.

  • Local Athletes: Visit our performance centre for a full Lactate Testing that goes beyond the standard lactate curve.

  • Remote Athletes: Complete the INSCYD Power-Performance Decoder (PPD) field test on your home roads/trainer.

  • The Data: We establish your VLamax, VO2max, Thresholds, and FatMax. We identify the specific physiological mechanism limiting your 70.3 / Ironman performance.

2. The Analysis (The "Coaching" Part) You don't just get a raw data file. You receive a Full Analysis of your data either through a video call or in-person.

  • We walk through your results.

  • We explain exactly what is limiting you.

  • We explain how the upcoming training block will fix it.

3. The Bespoke Training Block (12 Weeks) We build a custom plan directly into your TrainingPeaks account designed to fix your specific physiology.

  • Target Your Weakness: If you burn sugar too fast (High VLamax), we give you a block to improve efficiency. If your engine isn't big enough (Low VO2max), we focus on pure aerobic power.

  • Precision Intensity: No generic percentages. Every interval is set to your unique biological turning points, ensuring you are training the right system at the right time.

  • Race Fueling: Includes a specific carbohydrate guide for your long rides, so you learn exactly how to fuel your engine.

What happens after 12 weeks? Physiology changes. Once you complete the block, your engine will be different. You can simply purchase a "Reload Block" (Re-test + New Plan) to continue your progression into race season.

Frequently Asked questions

  • Yes. Long-course racing is limited by aerobic capacity, durability, and metabolic efficiency. This testing identifies what limits your sustainable bike power and run pace over 70.3 and Ironman distances.

  • Not always, but testing both provides the most complete picture.

    Many athletes are aerobically strong on the bike but limited on the run, or vice versa. Testing both disciplines allows us to identify where fatigue is coming from and how to structure training across the full race.

    You get two tests as part of this project so if you’d prefer to do one sport and test at the end of the 12 week block this can also be accommodated. Please specific at time of booking.

  • Yes. Many self-coached athletes use this testing to structure training accurately. Coached athletes often share the results with their coach to improve communication and training precision.

  • All data is quality-checked. If accuracy is insufficient, we’ll ask you to repeat the test to ensure your results and training recommendations are reliable.
