The HYROX Metabolic Project

Our performance testing combines metabolic profiling and INSCYD Power–Performance Diagnostic (PPD) modelling to identify the physiological systems that limit your performance. Whether tested in-person using lactate analysis or remotely via structured PPD protocols, the outcome is the same: precision training built around your physiology.

Why Physiology Matters in HYROX

Improved Performance is achieved from an understanding of what limits you. HYROX demands sustainable power across running and strength elements where your metabolic systems decide your race outcome.

Our Metabolic Project pairs metabolic profiling with targeted planning so you know exactly:

  • How your body creates energy at every pace

  • Where your aerobic system is strong or weak

  • Whether your lactate production vs clearance is optimised

  • What training actually moves your threshold forward

That means no guesswork, no generic plans — just a data-driven blueprint to close your performance gaps.

From Data to Performance

1. Precision Physiology Testing
We test your aerobic and anaerobic systems using lactate profilin either in our lab or via the ‘Virtual Lab’ using INSCYDs PPD that provides the same level of accuracy as lab testing, done remotely via a field test protocol.

Your unique lactate profile tells us where your body shifts from fat to carbohydrate energy and how quickly lactate accumulates.

2. Expert Analysis & Interpretation
You don’t just receive numbers. We explain your results in a guided consultation, pinpointing which physiological mechanisms hold you back (e.g., high lactate production, low aerobic capacity).

3. Bespoke 12 Week Training Block
We build a personalised plan that directly addresses your profile:

  • Strengthen your aerobic engine

  • Improve threshold sustainability

  • Reduce unnecessary lactate accumulation

  • Train at the correct intensities for maximal adaptation

Every session is programmed against your biology, not generic percentages.

Two Testing Pathways — One Outcome

We offer two validated testing routes depending on location and logistics. Both feed into the same INSCYD performance model and deliver the same actionable insights.

In-Person Metabolic & Lactate Testing (Local Athletes)

For athletes based locally, testing is conducted in person using:

  • Blood lactate analysis

  • Progressive intensity protocols

This allows direct measurement of metabolic responses and highly controlled testing conditions.

Remote INSCYD PPD Testing (All Athletes)

For athletes unable to attend in person, we use the INSCYD PPD protocol, completed in your own training environment using structured maximal efforts and uploaded files.

This method provides highly accurate modelling of:

  • VO2max

  • VLamax

  • MLSS / Threshold

  • Fatigue resistance

The physiological outputs are equivalent — only the data collection method differs.

FAQs

Frequently Asked questions

  • Both methods lead to the same physiological outcomes and training guidance.

    • In-person testing uses blood lactate sampling and controlled intensity steps.

    • Remote PPD testing uses structured maximal efforts completed in your own environment and analysed using INSCYD modelling.

The difference is how the data is collected — not what we can determine from it.

  • If you’re local and can attend in person, lactate testing offers a highly controlled environment.
If you’re remote or prefer flexibility, PPD testing provides excellent accuracy when the protocol is followed.

If you’re unsure, book the main testing option and we’ll confirm the best route.

  • For remote PPD testing you’ll need:

    • A GPS watch (Garmin, Coros, Polar, etc.)

    • The ability to record and upload .FIT or .TCX files

In-person testing equipment is fully provided.

  • The full PPD protocol is relatively short and can be completed:

    • In a single session

    • Or split across 1–3 days if needed

In-person lactate testing typically takes 60–90 minutes.

  • You’ll receive:

    • A full physiological performance profile

    • Accurate thresholds and training intensities

    • Identification of your key performance limiter

    • A 1-to-1 results consultation

    • Clear guidance on how to train differently

You are not left alone with the data.

  • Single-metric tests estimate performance from one effort.

    PPD and metabolic testing:

    • Model your entire performance curve

    • Separate aerobic limits from lactate limitations

    • Explain why you fatigue, not just how fast you are

This allows far more precise training decisions.

  • All data is quality-checked using INSCYD’s validation system.

If accuracy is insufficient, we will ask you to repeat part or all of the test to ensure reliable results.
We prioritise correct answers over convenience.

  • No. The protocol is scalable and suitable for:

    • Intermediate to advanced athletes

    • HYROX, triathlon, and endurance competitors

If you have medical concerns, contact us before booking.

  • Yes, this is particularly valuable for self-coached athletes.

    It provides objective clarity on:

    • What to prioritise

    • Which sessions matter most

    • How hard you should actually train.

  • Absolutely. Many athletes share their results directly with their coach to improve training accuracy and communication.
