VO2 max testing for health and longevity.
Your VO2 max is one of the strongest markers of how well you'll age. Find out where yours is today, your fitness age and how you compare with people your age, then get a clear plan to improve it. Lab testing in Aberdeen, explained in plain English.
No need to be an athlete. The test is adapted to your fitness.

The fitness number linked to a longer, healthier life
Research consistently links higher cardiorespiratory fitness with a lower risk of early death and chronic disease, and even moving up from the lowest fitness group makes a big difference. VO2 max falls as we age, but the right training slows that decline. Measuring it shows you where you stand and what to do next.

Health and longevity testing FAQs
Do I need to be fit to do a VO2 max test?
No. The test starts very easy and builds gradually, and we adapt it to your current fitness. It's useful whether you're already active or just getting started, because it shows you exactly where you're starting from.
What is a good VO2 max for my age?
VO2 max naturally falls with age, so what counts as good depends on your age and sex. We compare your result with age-group norms and show you where you sit, from below average to excellent, so you know what a realistic next target looks like.
How do you work out my fitness age?
We compare your VO2 max with the average for people of different ages. If your VO2 max matches the average for someone younger than you, your fitness age is younger than your real age, and vice versa.
Can I improve my VO2 max at any age?
Yes. VO2 max responds to training at any age. A mix of steady Zone 2 work and some harder intervals is usually the most effective approach, and your results tell us how to balance the two for you.
What is Zone 2 and why does it matter?
Zone 2 is the steady, conversational intensity where your body burns a high proportion of fat and builds aerobic fitness. It's a cornerstone of training for long-term health. Heart rate formulas often get it wrong; lactate testing in the Complete Longevity Profile finds your true Zone 2.
How often should I retest?
Every 6 to 12 months is ideal for tracking your health. The Test and Retest package gives you two VO2 Max Health Checks at a lower price, so you can see exactly what's changed.
Is this a medical test?
No. It's a fitness assessment, not a medical diagnosis. If you have a heart condition or any other medical condition, check with your GP before booking. If you need VO2 max testing for work or medical clearance, see our VO2 max medical testing.
How should I prepare?
We send everything you need when you book. Avoid hard exercise for 24 hours beforehand, don't eat a heavy meal in the two hours before, and wear comfortable exercise clothes and trainers. For RMR testing, come fasted in the morning; we'll give you the details.
